The 77th Cannes Film Festival is shaping to be an exciting event featuring renowned filmmakers like Francis Ford Coppola, George Miller, and George Lucas. Coppola brings “Megalopolis” with Adam Driver. George Miller presents “Furiosa,” which stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Lucas, who will receive an honorary Palme d’Or. Kevin Costner will debut his Western epic “Horizon, an American Saga.”

Among the anticipated films is Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness,” starring Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe. Selena Gomez stars in a Spanish-language musical crime-comedy called “Emilia Perez,” directed by Jacques Audiard. Selena Gomez’s film, directed by Jacques Audiard, is confirmed in the 2024 Cannes Film Festival lineup, and she took to Instagram to share her excitement. She thanked her fans and revealed first-look posters for the movie. In one poster, Selena sports a bold, bleached short hairdo, stands in a dark room illuminated with colorful neon lights, and wears a stylish floral blazer that catches attention.



Fans were surprised by her bold appearance and eagerly anticipate the film’s premiere at @festivaldecannes in May.

New Character Posters and Film Synopsis Revealed for “Emilia Pérez”

Exciting updates for the upcoming film “Emilia Pérez” were shared, including character posters featuring Selena Gomez’s co-stars Karla Sofía Gascon and Zoe Saldana. Karla, who plays the lead role, is depicted seated on a bed with her back to the camera, while Zoe Saldana strikes a dynamic pose in a bright pantsuit.

Pathé Films, the film’s distributor, announced the news on X, later retweeted by the official X page of the Cannes Film Festival. 

The tweet reveals the film’s stars and its inclusion in the official selection for Cannes 2024. According to the official synopsis, the film follows lawyer Rita in present-day Mexico, who receives an unexpected offer to help a feared cartel boss retire and disappear by transforming into the woman of his dreams.

Cannes Film Festival 2024 Lineup

Festival chief Thierry Frémaux and president Iris Knobloch revealed the 2024 Cannes Film Festival lineup at the UGC Normandie Theater in Paris, with eager film journalists in attendance. Knobloch announced that the festival will expand beyond the Palais des Festivals to include the Palm Beach venue, which is currently undergoing renovations. The Cannes Film Market has also attracted over 14,000 professionals from 120 countries.

Frémaux acknowledged the challenges in selecting this year’s films, reflecting on the previous year’s success. The lineup includes actors-turned-directors Lætitia Dosch and Noémie Merlant, with Merlant’s “The Balconettes” and Dosch’s “Who Let the Dog Bite?” featured in various sections. Yolande Zauberman’s “The Beauty of Gaza” explores the lives of trans-Palestinians and their journey to live authentically.

French filmmakers in the competition include Gilles Lellouche with “L’Amour Ouf,” Christophe Honoré’s “Marcello Mio,” and Agathe Riedinger’s feature debut “Diamant Brut.” These films cover diverse themes and showcase French talent on the international stage.

Anticipation Builds Ahead of Cannes Film Festival’s Opening

In his first interview before the official announcement, Cannes Festival boss Frémaux revealed a 20% increase in accreditation requests and expects over 2,000 film submissions. He emphasized the importance of films in setting the festival’s atmosphere.

Last year’s festival was notable for premiering two best picture nominees: Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” and Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest.”

The 77th Cannes Film Festival will commence with the world premiere of Quentin Dupieux’s surreal comedy “Second Act,” starring Lea Seydoux and Vincent Lindon. The festival will run from May 15 to May 25, promising an exciting lineup and eager anticipation from film enthusiasts worldwide.
