LinkedIn, Microsoft’s professional networking platform, is experimenting with a new feature that mirrors TikTok’s short-form video feed. TechCrunch confirmed this development after Austin Null, a strategy director at McKinney, an influencer agency, first noticed it. He showcased the new feed on LinkedIn itself, where the feature can be found under a “Video” tab in the app’s navigation bar.

This new video feed on LinkedIn is slightly different from other short video apps because it focuses only on content related to careers and professional topics. Currently, the innovative video feed feature is being tested and isn’t available to most users yet.

LinkedIn Explores Career-Focused Short Video Feed

LinkedIn, the professional networking platform owned by Microsoft, is currently testing a new feature focusing exclusively on career-related content in the form of short videos. This innovative feature, spotted initially by Austin Null, a strategy director at McKinney, aims to join the ranks of popular apps like Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and Netflix in offering short-form video feeds inspired by TikTok’s success. With video content gaining popularity among users for insights from professionals and experts, LinkedIn’s dedicated video feed stands out by providing concise videos tailored specifically for career development. Although LinkedIn has always allowed video uploads, this new feed seeks to enhance engagement and discovery by offering a streamlined platform for quick scrolling and accessing valuable professional content.

Using LinkedIn’s Short Video Feature

To use the short video feature on LinkedIn, first, open the LinkedIn app on your device and log in to your account. Look for a new tab labeled “Video” in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen, alongside options like Home, My Network, Messaging, and Notifications. Tap on the “Video” tab to enter a vertical feed of short videos. You’ll see a stream of videos that you can swipe through vertically. While browsing the video feed, interact with videos by liking them with a tap on the thumbs-up icon below each video.

Leave comments by tapping the comment icon and typing your comment in the text field. Share videos with others by tapping the share icon and selecting your preferred sharing option, like sharing via message, email, or a LinkedIn post. It’s important to note that LinkedIn hasn’t disclosed the specific criteria for how the video feed determines which videos to display to users.

LinkedIn Video Feed’s Future Prospects

The initial testing phase of the innovative video feed feature restricts its availability to most users. This initiative coincides with the rise of TikTok creators who have garnered significant followings by sharing career-related advice and experiences. LinkedIn’s introduction of this new feed could provide these creators with a fresh platform to share their video content and potentially expand their audience reach.

Speculation surrounds LinkedIn’s potential monetization of the video feed to encourage content creation on the platform. However, not all users may welcome this change, as some might feel overwhelmed by the proliferation of short-form video feeds on popular apps. Despite potential concerns, LinkedIn’s focus on professional and career-oriented content may set its video feed apart from others.

LinkedIn to Add Games to its Platform

LinkedIn is currently testing the addition of games to its professional network. App researcher Nima Owji found code snippets suggesting that LinkedIn is experimenting with a unique feature where player scores are linked to workplaces, potentially ranking companies based on these scores. However, a LinkedIn spokesperson clarified that the images shared by the researcher are not the latest versions.

According to a report from TechCrunch, LinkedIn is developing three puzzle-based games named “Queens,” “Inference,” and “Crossclimb.” While no specific launch date has been revealed, a LinkedIn spokesperson confirmed ongoing development, stating, “We’re exploring the integration of puzzle-based games into the LinkedIn experience to inject a bit of fun, foster deeper connections, and hopefully stimulate conversational opportunities.”
