On January 17, Tata Motors unveiled its highly anticipated Punch EV, a compact SUV, starting at Rs 10.99 lakh. The vehicle offers certified driving ranges of 315 km and 421 km across two configurations, accommodating five passengers. Tata Motors highlights a notable ground clearance of 190 mm, surpassing other products in its class. Car deliveries commence on January 22.

Positioned as a direct rival to the Citroen eC3, the Tata Punch EV enters the competitive entry-level EV market, challenging contenders such as the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV. With a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh, the top-specification variant demands Rs 14.49 lakh.

Tata Punch EV Battery Options, Chargers, and Warranty

The Tata Punch EV offers two battery options: a 25 kWh and a 35 kWh battery pack. Customers can choose between two charger options, including a 7.2 kW fast home charger exclusively available for the Lk variant and a 3.3 kW wallbox charger. The 25 kWh battery pack provides a claimed range (MIDC) of 315 km, while the Punch EV Long Range variant, equipped with a 35 kWh battery pack, boasts a claimed range (MIDC) of 421 km. Both the battery pack and motor come with an IP67 rating for dust and water protection, and the company provides an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.

Powerful Drive Options

The new EV offers two e-drive options:

  • A 120 bhp version with 190 Nm torque.
  • An 80 bhp version with 114 Nm torque.

Both options feature “permanent magnet non-synchronous” motors. It’s important to note that the 120 bhp version is exclusively available in the long-range variant.

Sleek Design Features of Tata Punch EV

The EV showcases 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and incorporates disc brakes on all wheels. Drawing inspiration from the Nexon facelift, it boasts a distinctive LED light bar, a bumper, and a grille design. Noteworthy features include split LED headlights integrated into the front bumper, a redesigned lower bumper with vertical strakes, and a silver faux skid plate, as highlighted by the company. Additionally, it offers a spacious 360 L boot space and includes a 14-litre frunk (front trunk) under the bonnet.

Safety Features in Tata Punch EV

The new EV comes equipped with standard safety features including 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, ESP, cruise control, and a 360-degree camera, exclusively available in the top-specification trim. Described as a paradigm shift in India’s EV journey, it is the first product built on the pure-electric Actiev architecture. The vehicle also offers advanced over-the-air updates. With a reinforced steel design for enhanced safety, it accelerates from 0 to 100 in just 9.5 seconds. The battery pack warranty extends to 8 years. Bookings for the new car opened in early January with a set booking amount of Rs 21,000.

Diverse Colors, DC Fast Charging

Tata Punch EV offers a variety of colour choices, such as oxide dual-tone, seaweek dual-tone, white dual-tone, grey dual-tone, and red. The vehicle, supporting DC fast charging, comes in two variants: Punch EV and Punch EV Long Range. Potential buyers have the option to choose from models like Empowered+, Empowered, and Adventure, with the choice between sunroof and non-sunroof configurations.
