Gopal Vittal of Bharti Airtel has said that the new Telecom Bill introduced in the Parliament will bring certainty in spectrum-related matters.
Vittal said the bill will help keep predictability in the spectrum. It will also help in matters like the surrender of spectrum that is not used. And it will be helpful in basic and advanced assignments.
What Gopal Vittal Said About the Telecom Bill
Gopal Vittal is the MD, CEO, and Chairman of the India and South Asia branch of Bharti Airtel.
He said that the new telecommunication bill which has been introduced in the Parliament will simplify the process of getting a licence. This bill will help in leasing and sharing the spectrum.
Vittal stated the issues related to property and common ducts will be solved and this will give an advantage to the telecom industry. There are provisions for penalty restructuring in the bill. The system of penalties will be reformed and simplified by the government. There will be a new clause for tiered or graded penalties according to the nature of the mistake or breach.
The Bharti Airtel CEO also holds the position of Chairman of the CII National Committee for Telecom and Broadband. He said that the legal support for right of way or RoW is going to speed up the introduction of 5G services. Additionally, it has the added benefit of reducing the cost of setting up the infrastructure once the telecom equipment is differentiated from the location where it is installed.

This bill takes forward the reform intention of the government which was started in September 2021 and brings predictability in many matters.

Akshaya Moondra, the CEO of Vodafone India, has also appreciated the new telecommunication bill. He especially praised the security provision of the bill. He said the bill would make getting a licence easier. In addition, he remarked that the bill was progressive and future-oriented.
Response of the Industry to the Telecom Bill
India’s telecom industry has described the new Telecommunication Bill as a very positive and forward-looking force and said that it will greatly improve India’s telecommunication sector.
Many other telecom industry executives have praised the Right of Way reforms proposed in the telecommunication bill, 2023 tabled in the Lok Sabha.
