There are reports that the company will aim to manufacture 50 million iPhones in India each year. It plans to reach this milestone during the upcoming two to three years. An update about this is provided by the Wall Street Journal saying that the brand will aim to build an extra ten million smartphones after this milestone is reached.
Apple’s Ambitious Plans to Make More iPhones in India
The global leader in the smartphone manufacturing sector wants to increase its iPhone production in India. It wants to double the number of phones it currently builds in the country. The aim of focusing on local manufacturing of smartphones is to avoid depending on China.
The iPhones that Apple will make in India will be about 25% of the total smartphones made by it. It is a big share of the total iPhones manufactured.
China is the biggest manufacturer of Apple’s phone currently. It will continue to be the leader in iPhone manufacturing even after the brand increases its production in India.
Apple Looking to Work with Asian Suppliers

Apple wants more suppliers from India and Japan. It is also planning to work with suppliers from South Korea. Apple makes phones locally in India in partnership with contract manufacturers. The government is reluctant to allow the import of components from China. Due to this, Apple has decided to get them from Asian suppliers.
