India’s PM Narendra Modi will attend the COP28 climate summit from 30th November to 1st December 2023. World leaders are organizing this meeting in Dubai. They are holding the meeting until 12th December to discuss climate issues.

COP is the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It is named COP28 because it is the 28th meeting.

Politicians, prime ministers of different countries, policymakers, and environmental experts will attend this meeting. The attendees will discuss climate issues and climate emergencies in this meeting. They aim to finalize a collective response for environmental protection. They will agree on restricting the increase of world temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The decision has already been made as per the Paris Agreement.

The world leaders are gathering in the COP28 to protect the environment for future generations. They will analyze the progress of the climate-related efforts. In addition, they will analyze the commitment of different countries to climate issues. The meeting will also target initiating collective action.

India’s Agenda For COP28 Climate Summit

  • India will highlight and promote the Global Biofuels Alliance formed in September 2023.
  • Another issue related to India will be agreeing to the global pledge for Cooling Related Emissions.
  • India is not ready to sign this agreement. The world will decide on a cooling pledge during COP28.
  • India will put forward its request for more funds for deep emission cuts.
  • India is also concerned about the global methane pledge. It is not ready to cut its coal usage.
