On Thursday, Alia Bhatt and Amazon Prime Video unveiled the Poacher trailer. It’s an original crime thriller series. Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Richie Mehta writes, creates, and directs the upcoming web series, which narrates the tale of one of India’s biggest crime rackets. Inspired by real-life events, Poacher centres around the narrative of the largest ivory poaching scheme, entailing cold-blooded murders, silent victims, and an unprecedented world of crime.
Premiering on Prime Video in India and over 240 nations and territories worldwide on February 23, Poacher can be streamed in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. Additionally, it will feature subtitles in over 35 languages.
Alia Bhatt Unveils Poacher Trailer on Instagram
Alia took to her Instagram handle to unveil Poacher trailer. Describing it as “a story of one of the biggest crime rackets in India” in the caption, the trailer kicks off in a Kerala forest where an elephant falls prey to a poaching gang. Transitioning indoors, investigators discuss the resurgence of the poaching racket in Kerala, previously dormant since the 1990s.
Led by Dibyendu Bhattacharya and supported by Nimisha Sajayan, the investigating team embarks on a mission to dismantle arguably the largest crime racket India has witnessed, valued at an astronomical ₹1 crore. The racket extends beyond the Indian jungles, spanning across the globe. The series also features Alia’s Darlings co-star, Roshan Mathew.
Alia Offers a Glimpse into the Poacher Narrative
Earlier this week, Alia shared a video on her Instagram handle showcasing her inside a jungle. Holding a bag and dressed casually, Alia’s voice in the background discussed elephant murders in the jungle. The discovery of a loaded rifle spent bullet casings, and the eerie outline of a lifeless body left her visibly shocked.
In her caption, Alia documented her experience while shooting the awareness video, expressing, “I spent less than a day in the jungle to shoot this awareness video, but it still gave me chills. Murder is Murder…and I can’t wait for you to see the full story through the eyes of #RichieMehta and our stellar cast @nimisha_sajayan @roshan.matthew @dibyenduofficial.”
Poacher, an investigative crime series based on true events, delves into the issue of ivory poaching in India. Executive produced by QC Entertainment’s Edward H. Hamm Jr., Raymond Mansfield, and Sean McKittrick, in association with Suitable Pictures, Poor Man’s Productions, and Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions, the series is set to premiere on Prime Video India on February 23.
