During his address at a Mahindra Logistics event, Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport and Highway, expressed his desire to implement AC driver cabins in trucks since his appointment as minister. He announced that all trucks will require AC driver cabins starting in 2025.
Before the event, Gadkari signed a file mandating air conditioning in truck driver compartments. The government aims to ensure the well-being of truck drivers by providing AC driver cabins.
Government working on roadside amenities
The Minister for Road Transport and Highway provided reassurance that the government is making every effort to enhance the amenities available on national highways.
The Union minister also spoke about some major projects. The Centre is committed to improving wayside amenities on national highways. Tenders have been awarded for 170 out of 570 roadside amenities, with work already underway. The Ministry aims to establish an amenity centre every 50 kilometres of highway stretches.

Major Projects Inaugurated By Gadkari on Tuesday
With a pledge to match the road network standards of the US, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurates and lays the foundation stones of development projects worth ₹3,700 crores in Haryana.
On Tuesday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inspects the model of 11 flyovers on the eight-lane National Highway from Delhi to Panipat in Sonipat. Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala accompanied him.
Consequently, 11 flyovers on the 24-km eight-lane stretch of the NH from Delhi to Panipat are inaugurated, relieving traffic congestion. The newly inaugurated flyovers on the Delhi-Panipat highway are set to improve connectivity and significantly reduce commuter travel time.
Addressing a gathering at the “Gauravshali Bharat Rally” in Sonepat, Gadkari announces that the ministry is actively working on 100 projects worth ₹2 lakh crore in Haryana. That with expected completion by December next year.
Moreover, a total of 51 projects spanning 2,200 km worth ₹47,000 crores have already been completed. Another 30 projects covering 830 km worth ₹35,000 crores are currently in progress.
Simultaneously, detailed project reports are being prepared for 14 additional projects, totaling 756 km and valued at ₹20,000 crore.
Impressively, work worth ₹6,000 crores has already been accomplished in Haryana, demonstrating significant progress in infrastructure development.
In a strategic move, Nitin Gadkari proposes inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the Ambala-Kotputli highway.
Furthermore, Gadkari announces that Haryana will benefit from the upcoming 670-km Delhi-Amritsar-Katra highway. That will be constructed at a cost of ₹9,000 crore and completed by December 2024.
