Elon Musk thinks ChatGPT is too focused on specific ideas, which could be problematic. He also mentioned Google Gemini as a concern. Musk worries that these advanced AI systems might have ideas that could harm society. He talked about it on X while replying to a user discussing a TED talk by NPR’s CEO, Katherine Maher.

Musk believes that if these ideas are programmed into powerful AI, it could be really bad for humanity. He mentioned this while responding to a post by a professor named Gaad Saad. Saad was talking about Maher’s speech, in which she said that truth can vary depending on perspectives.

Elon Musk’s Concerns About Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT

Elon Musk has discussed the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI). He even signed a letter with other tech experts asking for a six-month break in AI development. According to India Today, Musk has been part of AI for a while despite his warnings. In 2015, he helped start OpenAI as a non-profit with Sam Altman and others. However, Musk left in 2018 because he had a conflict of interest with other companies working on OpenAI’s ChatGPT. OpenAI, though, said Musk left because he wanted more control over the organization and even suggested merging it with Tesla.

NPR CEO’s Statement

Gaad commented on the NPR CEO’s statement, saying that the idea of “truth is subjective” is a big part of postmodernism, which he thinks is a harmful idea. He called it the “granddaddy of all parasitic idea pathogens.”

On the other hand, Musk, who has been critical of how OpenAI and Google program their AI models with what he calls “woke” ideas, linked the NPR CEO’s words to the most advanced chatbots out there: ChatGPT and Gemini.

Musk said,

“Now imagine if this is programmed, explicitly or implicitly, into super powerful AI – it could end civilisation. Now, no need to imagine. It is already programmed into Google Gemini and OpenAI ChatGPT.”

Elon Musk’s Involvement in AI Chatbots

According to a blog post by OpenAI, Elon Musk left the organization because he wanted more control over it and even suggested merging it with Tesla.

Last December, Elon Musk introduced his own AI chatbot, GrokAI, which is available to X Premium and Premium+ users. It was advertised as having a “sense of humor” and being a witty AI assistant. Musk’s AI company, xAI, said GrokAI is inspired by the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and is meant to answer questions with humor. They advised people who don’t like humor not to use it.
