Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, held bilateral meetings with Timor-Leste’s President Jose Ramos-Horta and Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi on Tuesday. The MEA official stated they discussed ways to enhance ties in various fields. Modi also engaged with top industry leaders and CEOs globally, discussing plans to strengthen investments in India, as revealed in posts on X by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
PM Modi Engages in Discussions with World and Industry Leaders
On Tuesday morning, he arrived at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, engaging in discussions with world and industry leaders a day ahead of the 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.
In a bilateral meeting with Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta, Modi extended congratulations for his country’s upcoming ASEAN membership and invited him to join the International Solar Alliance and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. Additionally, Modi met with leaders such as DP World’s Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Micron Technology’s Sanjay Mehrotra, Deakin University’s Iain Martin, A P Moller-Maersk’s Keith Svendsen, and Suzuki Motor Corp’s Toshihiro Suzuki, as reported by the PMO in a series of posts on X.
PM Modi Holds Productive Meetings on Bilateral Ties and Cooperation
After the meeting, Indian PM expressed,
“Had an excellent meeting with President @Jose RamosHortal of Timor-Leste. The fact that our meeting is taking place in Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, makes this meeting even more special considering Gandhi Ji’s influence on President Horta’s life and work. We discussed ways to further bilateral and cultural ties between our nations.”
As reported by Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X, the discussions covered bilateral cooperation in various fields, including development partnerships in health, traditional medicine, energy, IT, fintech, and capacity building, among others. Jaiswal further stated,
“Furthering the Delhi-Dili connect! PM @narendramodi held a productive meeting with President @Jose RamosHortal of Timor-Leste in Gandhinagar.”
During the meeting, Modi invited Timor-Leste to join the International Solar Alliance and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
Additionally, Modi engaged in a bilateral meeting with President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique. Both leaders had fruitful discussions on enhancing bilateral ties, covering areas such as defense, counter-terrorism, energy, health, trade & investment, capacity building, maritime cooperation, and people-to-people ties. They also exchanged perspectives on regional and international issues, including cooperation in multilateral fora.
Indian PM further met Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, discussing DP World’s plans to bolster investment in India, particularly focusing on creating sustainable, green, and energy-efficient ports, along with world-class sustainable logistic infrastructure, as highlighted by the PMO.
Discussions on Semiconductor Manufacturing, Academic Collaboration, and Green Hydrogen Development
The President and CEO of Micron discussed with Modi the company’s efforts to enhance the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India, as highlighted in a post on X. Professor Iain Martin, the Vice Chancellor of Deakin University, which has set up a campus at the Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City, called on PM Modi. They discussed enhancing collaboration between the government and academic institutions related to cybersecurity. Modi welcomed Deakin University to collaborate with Indian universities to promote research and innovation, as per the PMO.
As per another post on X, Keith Svendsen, CEO of A.P. Moller, met the Indian PM in Gandhinagar. Their discussions encompassed crucial topics such as green hydrogen and the development of logistics infrastructure, with the PM welcoming their expansion plans in the GIFT City.
PM Modi Discusses Maruti Suzuki’s Global Plans for India’s Automotive Market Expansion
During the meeting with Toshihiro Suzuki of Suzuki Motor Corp, they discussed Maruti Suzuki’s plans to strengthen India’s position in the global automotive market by exporting Made in India vehicles. The PMO added that the discussions also involved deploying global best practices related to vehicle scrapping and vehicle recycling in India. Later in the day, Modi is set to inaugurate the Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show.
PM Modi and UAE President to Lead Three-Kilometer Road Show in Ahmedabad
In the evening, both leaders will lead a three-kilometer road show from outside the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. On Wednesday, PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, a global forum for business collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strategic partnerships for inclusive growth and sustainable development, as stated by the PMO. Following the summit inauguration, Modi will meet with CEOs of top global corporations.
