The users of the microblogging site X, previously called Twitter, experienced a technical error at 11 a.m. on 21st December, affecting the users of both the online portal and mobile app of X. The social media platform displayed a message of ‘Welcome to your timeline’ when users opened their account on X. They could not see the tweets they usually got on their feed.

Downdetector Had 70,000 Users Complaining of Twitter Down

The Downdetector web portal had reports of 70000 people complaining about the issue of not being able to use Twitter. No one knows the reason behind this problem. There were a few users who said that ads were visible on their feeds and they could view the posts they had tweeted. There is also information that the feature of searching for profiles was working. The profiles were visible after searching but the posts on the profiles searched were not visible. 

It was a confusing outage and some users posted about the issue on Facebook. They shared their worry about X not working well. Users also posted about the X app not working. They shared their concerns on Facebook and wanted to know if others were also facing the same thing. 

The outage on X/twitter was finally resolved after one hour.

Users Experience Problems Due to Twitter Down

The issue on X was not limited to any specific location. Users all over the world witnessed the same problem regardless of from which region they were. They could not get the regular tweets on their feed. It is not known as to why the outage occurred.

After the problem in X, many people shifted to Spaces. Spaces help users get access to the feature of live-streamed discussions. Although there was an issue of outage on X, the ‘twitterdown’ started trending on the site. Users have been tweeting about the problems they faced and how frustrated they felt. Everyone seems to be sharing their concerns. Some users went to other social media platforms during the time they were not able to use X.

Previous Instances of Twitter Down

There have been glitches like this on X earlier also. Elon Musk is the owner of X or Twitter. Users have undergone similar problems previously in March 2023. Apart from this, there was another downtime in July. As per the reports of Downdetector, the microblogging platform went down more than 13,000 times in July in the US and UK.
