Kia, the South Korean automaker, will introduce 9 Kia EVs for sale in India in 2024. The company is also trying to make vehicles that utilise alternate fuels like hydrogen and CNG.
Kia India Managing Director and CEO Tae-Jin Park has revealed the ambitious plan of his company to work on these vehicles. They have big plans to launch new models of Kia EVs in India next year. The company may also begin manufacturing the vehicles locally in 2025.
CEO Reveals the Plan to Make More EVs
The CEO Tae-Jin Park said that they would start local production of electric vehicles on a mass scale in India starting in 2025. Later, they will start selling more models of electric vehicles each year. They plan to seize 15 to 17% of the electric vehicles market in India by 2030.
Replying to a question on the policy of the Government of India for vehicles, he said that India followed a policy for electric vehicles that differed from advanced countries such as the US, Europe, and South Korea.
The Indian branch of Kia has made a strategy to increase its production in the country. It is also planning to expand its sales network during next year. At present, Kia manufactures 3,40,000 units per year. It will increase its production capacity by manufacturing 1,00,000 units more than the current production capacity. They will try to attract customers who live in Tier 3 and 4 cities.
The Kia India CEO was asked if they had any plans to make electric vehicles that run on alternate fuels. He replied that they were working to produce vehicles with hydrogen and CNG. It will help in offering eco-friendly vehicles for sale in the market.
Further, he said that they will be using diesel trims in the vehicles that they make and sell. Models that have diesel trims are very popular among customers who buy their products. Kia sells 40-45% of Seltos and Sonet models with diesel trims.
Kia EV Models That Received Good Response From Buyers
Right now, EV6 is the only model of electric vehicle that Kia plans to sell in India. The automobile brand will work on introducing more models and a greater number of electric vehicles in the coming times. It will be manufacturing the model Kia EV9 in future. Both EV6 and EV9 are high-budget vehicles. The company is planning to make its products more affordable for mass consumption. The Kia EV9 model has received a good response from customers since its launch. Many people have booked the EV9 model. It is expected that it will receive a good response in India too.
