The company aims to launch its inaugural electric vehicle by year-end, boasting an annual production capacity of approximately 20 lakh units.
Suzuki Motors Unveils Major Investments at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit
On Wednesday, Suzuki Motor Corporation, led by President Toshihiro Suzuki, declared its commitment to invest Rs 3,200 crore in Gujarat for the establishment of a new production line capable of producing 2.5 lakh units annually. Additionally, the company aims to allocate Rs 35,000 crore for the construction of a second car plant in the state.
President Toshihiro Suzuki, during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024, announced that the first electric vehicle from Suzuki Motors’ Gujarat plant is set to roll out by the year-end. He emphasized the global reach of this electric model, planning to sell it not only in India but also export it to Japan and select European countries.
Suzuki Motors Expands Production Capacities in Gujarat
President Toshihiro Suzuki revealed that the newly established production line in Gujarat will contribute an extra 2.5 lakh units annually, raising Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s total annual production from the current 7.5 lakh to 10 lakh units.
Simultaneously, the construction of a second car plant in the state is anticipated to add another 10 lakh units per year, potentially elevating Suzuki Motors’ annual production capacity in Gujarat to around 20 lakh units.
President Suzuki confirmed the launch of Suzuki Group’s inaugural battery electric vehicle from Suzuki Motor Gujarat by the end of this year, with plans to not only cater to the Indian market but also export the model to Japan and various European countries.
Suzuki Aims for Robust Growth in India’s Auto Market
Suzuki recognizes the significance of India’s flourishing auto market, with its subsidiary Maruti Suzuki leading as the top carmaker by sales, holding a 58 per cent ownership. The company has strategic plans to boost production capacity to 20 lakh units by 2030-2031, featuring an extensive lineup of 28 distinct models.
Currently operating manufacturing facilities in Gujarat and Haryana, Suzuki can presently produce over 22 lakh vehicles, underlining its commitment to meet the escalating demands in India’s dynamic automotive landscape.
Suzuki’s Production Facilities in Haryana and Gujarat Drive Output
The Gurgugram and Manesar plants in Haryana jointly contribute to an annual production exceeding 15.5 lakh units. Additionally, Suzuki Motor Gujarat, the company’s subsidiary, operates a plant in Gujarat with an established production capacity of 7.5 lakh units annually.
Anticipated for commissioning next year, the new plant’s first phase will add a manufacturing capacity of 2.5 lakh units per annum, further strengthening Suzuki’s production capabilities.
